Unlikely as it seemed, after a while I was quite impressed with "I Wanna Know" in 2018. I took to "So Close" much sooner; after one listen I was hooked. The pre-chorus was the first thing to grab me, with one of the catchiest melodies of the year I found it irresistible. The chorus itself is also very catchy and doesn't grow tiresome even with quite a bit of repetition which is difficult to do. As someone who's primary focus in the music I like is lyrics and vocals, my main gripe with this genre is that often the production is completely overbearing to the vocals, however I definitely don't have that problem here. Every beat or melody feels like it adds to the overall track and something would feel missing if it wasn't there. Even the distorted vocal portion following the second chorus, which might bother me in other songs, really feels like it belongs here. It's a fun addition. The vocals are also very impressive and well suited. Everything works together perfectly to make this song immensely catchy and great to sing along to. |
