Cooler Song ... wird da "Buy U A Drank" von T-Pain gesampelt?

S.

Schöne Synthies.

crap!

Schwachsinn.

Came in at #97 in my Top 100 of 2008.
*
Annoying Rubbish!
**
Pretty bad.
***
Definitely not on par with releases from the previous album, but the best of the worst. I'll give it a 3 instead of 4 as it can get very annoying.
**
Stupid song
***
leuke plaat, maar iets te weinig inhoud.

TRASH!

To put the most important statement forward first, I could've DEFINITELY sworn that I've reviewed this song already. I know I've said this with other songs before, but I'm dead-set certain that I've typed letters into this box with the title "GYM CLASS HEROES FEAT. THE-DREAM - COOKIE JAR (SONG)" above it, accompanied with the 5* rating.

Maybe I'm just going crazy considering the time of the day it is, and have no idea of my bearings. There's a chance that maybe I haven't reviewed it before, and my anger was in vain. I don't know, it's all a bit confusing at times.

(NOTE: If I state "I know I've reviewed this song before", or something along those lines in any of my other reviews, refer to the above description of how I feel when I do so, but interchange to the respective song title).

But, I digress. Time to end the rant and get to the actual review of this song.

I'll admit, I was in the younger stages of my life when this hit the charts. I'd actually heard it before it made an appearance on the charts (which I remember quite vividly for some peculiar reason), and wanted for it to succeed.

At that time, I didn't particularly care so much for lyrics, but rather how the song sounded. Using the sonic characteristics to judge how much I liked this song, I was attracted to it immediately, and listened to it frequently over the next couple of months. My liking of this song was further heightened by my next door neighbour liking it.

Not only did my neighbour constantly talk about their infatuation with this song, but he also played it on his loud speakers in his bedroom, which I embraced whenever it wafted into my ears from quite a distance.

However, this song faded from my consciousness, being overtaken by new material being released at the time. Luckily, I managed to stumble upon this mid-2013 (during which time I was sure I'd reviewed this), but heard it in a different life.

Originally, I heard it as some guy who has an obsession for cookies. I knew it was a euphemism for something, but I didn't want to find out what it was in the case that it ruined the perception I had of the song.

Listening to it again, and knowing what the term "cookie jar" means (further aided by a nice little representation of it at 2:40 of the official music video which I never noticed or took any significance in first time around), it sort-of disgusts me. Now, I try to regress back to my previous naive ways, and pretend as if he's talking about the sweet treat.

What I enjoyed most about this song, other than the music, was the way "The-Dream"'s smooth voice perfectly fitted into the vibe that the song set. His chorus is perhaps the highlight of the song.

Looking at it now, the chauvinistic and gallivanting ways of the people involved in the music video make it a bit hard to watch, so I just listen to this in the background while I do something else.

All of this listening and life experience ultimately comes to the 5* star rating. It's a song I still very much enjoy, despite its flaws, and a song which I still reap immense treasured nostalgia from. It's close to a 6*, but some lyrical matters do hold this back from achieving such a virtue.

By the way, this would be amongst my top "Gym Class Heroes" songs.

That brings to an end a comparatively long review for a single song, but hopefully justifies the reason why I perceive the song so favourably.
