Das Album braucht seine Anläufe aber nach kurzer Zeit hört man die Schönheit heraus. Es ist teilweise rockiger als vorige Alben.

Masterpiece! Elliott Smith lebte für die Musik. Musik, in der er düstersten Selbstzweifel und Jugendremnisenzen ausleben konnte. Das führte ihn vom stillen bis zur Drogenabhängigkeit, und von dort an zum mysteriösen Selbstmord mit einem Küchenmesser ins gebrochene Herz.
Eine tragische Geschichte, die nach Klischee und Starkult riecht, ist es aber nicht.

Sehr schönes Album von Elliott Smith mit einer beeindrucken-
den Dichte an guten Songs.....

......kommt für mich knapp hinter "Either/Or", etwa auf
gleicher Stufe wie "Figure 8".

This is a really good album. What stands out for me is the songwriting, he really knows how to pull out and show emotion, relying heavily on the lyrics and the voice as opposed to the moodiness of the beat or backing music. There are a few moody atmospheric tracks but his songwriting is what really stands out here.

He has a pretty good voice, but I wish we could hear more of it to be honest because at times it sounds like the instruments take over. I mean, I guess he's that type of artist but I've always liked vocal music adn that's the only thing that holds it back from a six for me. The standout track for me here is Pitseleh, although several of them are 5* worthy.
