Highlights: Airplanes // Ghost in The Machine // Airplanes Part 2 eher schwach: Bet I // Lovelier Than You
Weiter so!
*** To be fair, I didn't hate this album as much as I thought I would. Most of it was just extremely average and nothing special, and it's a shame for B.o.B. that he's released some of the "safest" (read: more bland and uninteresting) tracks as singles, because it put me off listening to the album as a whole for quite a while. The major problem with the album is that B.o.B.'s rap is not very good. All of the songs rely heavily on having a catchy hook or chorus and featuring a guest artist to do most of the work. The standouts were Magic, Nothin On You and Ghost In The Machine.
***** One of the best albums of 2010, this album has a little something for everybody. It is very eclectic in style and genre, as B.o.B. flits between rapping, singing (which he does quite decently) and guest apperances.
The more pop moments shine as the major hit singles, 'Airplanes', 'Nothin' On You' and 'Magic'. Most appreciated of all is that B.o.B. performs meaningful rap lyrics and doesn't just talk sex and nonsense like most of his contemporaries.
The more urban moments will appease the younger hip-hop fans, 'Bet I' and 'Past My Shades' are perfect examples of how to do hip-hop and how to do it well.
Finally, the more meaningful moments which are the personal highlights for me. Atmospheric and serious tracks like 'Don't Let Me Fall' and 'Ghost In The Machine' prove B.o.B. is ahead of the game as an well-rounded artist.
The album would get a 6, but there are a couple of filler moments (see: 'Fame', '5th Dimension').
